Green Eyes

78. Dec. 30: I became a Reverend.

I went online and got my certificate for FREE. If anyone needs me to marry them, or do their funeral, baptize them, or read them their last rites, I'm legally capable. Feel free to call me Rev. Royce from now on. I'm totally gonna walk around and tell everyone that I'm a pastor now.

So, I saw Benjamin Button again today, and it was even better the second time. I never thought I would sit through a 3-hour movie twice in the span of a week, and still enjoy it completely. But I did.

I also saw Revolutionary Road tonight, which I've been dying to see for a long time. See it for sure, but it's SO depressing. My god. The acting wasn't that great, though. Leo DiCaps was pretty good when he was losing his cool, but other than that, I didn't see any oscar winners for sure.

The Manhattan Project

Seeing as how I was still sick, even though it's lame, it was literally the only thing I did yesterday:

77. Dec. 29: I watched 7 episodes of Extras in one day.

So stupid, I know, but I still wasn't well enough to do anything except for watch tv.

Save Us

This is kind of weird, but my circumstances allowed me to do something I wanted to do anyway.

76. Dec. 28: I stayed in exactly one spot the entire day.

And I mean one spot. The entire day is 11 hours, because that's how long I was awake. I was up half the night vomiting my mind out (great imagery) and I was completely confined to the couch for the day. I have never been more miserable in my life. I was in so much pain, I couldn't sleep, I couldn't eat, and I had a fever. We think it was food poisoning. I watched a bunch of episodes of House, and then seeing as I couldn't even get up to turn off the tv (our remote is on its last legs) or put in a movie, I watched What Women Want, and part of Cast Away on tv, and then Wall-E later with my mother. But then I slept for about 13 hours.

Great post, I know.

Have a heart

75. Dec. 27: I went up to bed at 5 in the morning.

Don't ask me how I could have possibly forgotten to do a new thing, but I kind of did. So, there you go.

For as much time and resources I've had over break, I suck at this a lot.

Looking through a glass onion

74. Dec. 26: I watched Return of the King extended.

For as big of a Lord of the Rings nerd I'd like to be, I've never actually seen the extended cut, only ever the theatrical versions. If you want to be picky, I've also never watched it in the comfort of my own home, only ever on the big screen.

The reason I add on that side bit, is because in all fairness, I didn't exactly watch the whole thing, because I was too busy falling asleep. I, much like a genius, started a 4 1/2 hour movie at 10:30. So, there. That relates heavily to my thing the next day.

I Should Have Known Better

73. Christmas: I played Scattegories.

Although I got it for Christmas last year, I have never gotten around to playing it. I am not ungrateful for the gift at all, I love playing games, but I haven't had time in the past year. It was really fun, except I guess I'm not very good at it. It's actually quite difficult playing games with the Dickisons, because I guess they know a lot. Snobs.

Good Haul.

Don't leave me this way

72. Dec. 24: I sang a duet on Christmas Eve.

At the Christmas eve service, I sang a duet with Ross on Silent Night. I had nothing else, so that works as my new thing, right?

No Matter What

This one I've been meaning to do for awhile now, but Tianna wanted to do it with me, but she was being a little punk all the time...

71. Dec. 23: I waxed my legs.

Not as painful as I would have thought, but it was still painful. I got one of those home kits from Sally Hansen's, and it was really messy, and smelled kind of weird and it was really tedious. If I were to do it again, I would go somewhere, and have it done for me. Although it yielded better results than shaving, it was still really annoying.

I also went and visited Emily at school that day, which was a first, but I had already had this planned when she suggested it, so...Sorry Emily.

Covert

Christmas shopping...

70. Dec. 22: I spent over $100 dollars cash in a day.

It is just the worst feeling to be spending that much money, but I got a lot of good Christmas presents bought out of it.

I also saw "Yes Man" that day. Don't ask me why I wanted to see it (i'm not trying to sound like a snob, but that's just not usually the kind of movie I want to see) but I did, and it was actually really funny at times. I think because of Murray, from Flight of the Conchords was in it, and he was just terribly funny. Me and Caroline went together, because we didn't want anyone to know that either of us saw it.

Re: Now that its the end -- Rate the books! From Fave to Least Fave

Wow. I'm so sorry this has happened. The one day I was planning on actually finally updating, I got extremely sick, and seriously bed-ridden.

69. Dec. 21: I got up when Smokey woke me up, and tried to let him out, but he didn't want to go, so I fed him instead.

If that seems oddly specific, it is. I was busy the entire day doing something I've already done before (The Lord of the Rings marathon at The Riverview,) so I thought that this is something I've never done before, because no one ever wants to do it. Donesies.

I hope this doesn't put anyone off, but instead of a huge post, I'm just going to do individual ones.

Happy Festivus. I'll write a massive post tomorrow. Today I lack the strength.

Festivus Dinner

67. Dec. 19: I went to downtown Macy's for lunch during my open hour on Friday.

The reason I get so specific there is because, I'm not sure if I've ever actually been there (Macy's 12th Floor) before or not for lunch on the regs, but I know for sure that I've never gone on a school day. The reason I went was because Meera kept talking about how she wanted to go and get some mac and cheese, and I thought it sounded good, so she suggestion we go during my open hour. Emma and Tianna also accompanied us. We cut it kind of close, time wise. But the food was really good.

And last night Tianna and I had the lamest sleepover. It's pretty much all my fault though. Because I was like "Tianna, do you want to have a Christmas treats baking day?" and so we decided that we were going to have a sleepover last night and do it. But, I was all Christmas treated out, thanks to the lovely Gingerbread house Andy made for me, and I decided I didn't really want to. Also, I hadn't really planned any of it out at all. And when Tianna first came over, I was watching Top Chef, and didn't really want to stop, so I pretty much made her watch two episodes with me, and I also read a magazine. And I was taking forever to decide what food to order for dinner. And I also kind of made us watch Family Guy. And then we went on the computer to do some shaz, and then I made her watch me play Word Twist. And then another draw of the evening was going to be us watching Donnie Darko, but when Tianna opened the case, she only had the second disk, so we didn't get to watch the movie, and she was really pissed off about not knowing where the actual movie is, (we pondered it maybe being at Lizzie's house...) and so, we just kind of hung out for awhile, and then we decided to watch Pride and Prejudice, but less than an hour into it, we got really tired, and went upstairs and went to sleep. All before midnight. And then I wouldn't get up this morning, because I was really tired, and as some of you may know, I don't say words at all when I'm tired, so I spoke to her only in hums, and texts and sign language. So, sorry, Tianna. I know I was really lame-o.

68. Dec. 20: I went to the State Theater.

I saw the Nutcracker Fantasy. It was really good. I went with Meera and Evelyn, and since Meera is a dancer, she knew like everyone and their mom, so I would feel bad saying anything bad about anyone. But I think the dancing was really good. Sometimes I wish I was a dancer. They're so cool, and who doesn't love a dancer? But I'm truly a terrible dancer, with awful balance, so it is not written for me. Le sigh...

This week I've been obsessed with Little Women. I'm currently re-reading it, and I've been watching the movie a lot, because it's my favorite book, and one of my favorite movies. Also, it's great for Christmas, but then you have to watch out about getting all sad when it's spring, and then the second part is just...ugh, a big old mess, but it must work out that way. Christian Bale!

Psychology Today

I just, don't care what anyone says, this is just the greatest hilarity of my life, so I declare it my new thing:

67. Dec. 18: I got locked out of a car.

Does not seem that hilarious, but oh, let me tell you, it was amazing. So, Jessica, Tianna, Lizzie and I went Christmas shopping at the mall after school, and you know, we got a lot of people to buy for, so we spent about 3, 3 1/2 hours shopping. So, our last stop, J. Crew, Lizzie walks out and looks into her purse, and kind of starts to smile, and allude to the fact that something is wrong, or she lost something. I assume she just left her debit card in the store or something. But no. She says: "I think I left the keys in the car." Of course we all start running towards bloomingdales, because that's where we parked, and Lizzie started laughing and said "I think it's still running." So, Lizzie, Jessica and I, were actually all laughing, and thought it was hilarious, and Tianna was freaking out, because she didn't want her stuff to get stolen. So 3/4 of us are having a good time with this, and we get out to the car, and we see that the car is still there, and indeed, it is still running. Lizzie goes to the door, and says "The radio is still on." And of course, all the doors are locked. I immediately pulled the underwire out of my bra and gave it to Lizzie to try and pick the lock, to no avail. So we go sit inside bloomingdales, and Lizzie calls home to get someone to come out and bring us the spare keys. At this point we are all pretty much beside ourselves, because this event is now comedic gold. I really could not stop laughing. I want to make a disclaimer though, I was not laughing at Lizzie for being stupid or anything for leaving the car on, but I just thought it was so funny that this type of situation happened to an extreme degree. So, anyways, Lizzie's cousin came and brought the keys (Everybody in Lizzie's family did not seem to find the situation as funny as we did...) and he seemed kinda mad, but we got in, and to add to the awesomeness, the heat was still on. So, it was nice and warm, at least!

Oh, just so great. I hope everyone gets a kick out of that one. It's just classic. Completely classic.

To switch gears extremely, I have been feeling really moody the past couple of weeks. Like I've been really angry, and depressed, and literally like everyone I know has done something to irritate me in some way. Everything and everyone is bugging me, and I have not been able to enjoy myself for awhile now. I know it is not everyones job in the universe to cater to my needs, and I know that It's not like everyone has been mean to me, (and again, it's not all about me me me) but I would like people to lay off of me. I think everyone who I am talking about knows who they are. Without being too specific, I would like to stop being nagged constantly, because when you get on my case, it makes me too depressed to even try anymore. I really don't want to talk about things that are wrong with me all the time. I wonder how you think that makes me feel. Obviously, I don't feel great about myself. And I guarantee you, if you're disappointed in me, I'm ten more times disappointed in myself, and don't need you to even talk to me. Please. Please, please, please, get OFF my back.

I'm sorry that was so emo, and it's not like I'm going to go kill myself or anything, but I think I need to address that. And don't talk to me later so we can talk about "how to address the problem."

older than the flow of human blood in human veins.

66. Dec. 17: I read a chapter from "Cold Tangerines"

I got the book from Emily for my birthday this year, and being distracted with other books, I just haven't sat down and read any of it yet. I apologize, Emily. But I was looking through it the other night (it's chapters are about significant life experiences and struggles, and other stuff as well) and decided to read the chapter entitled "Baby Making". Don't ask me why I chose that one, it must have just seemed the most interesting at the time. Anyways, Emily wrote a note in the front of the book, and she mentioned that she gave it to me because she loves it, and has read it twice, but she also mentions how she loves how it is written. I agree so much with that. It was totally easy to relate to, (even though, I am not in the business of making babies right now..) and I don't know, it was just very nice. So, thank you again, Emily.

Don't disappoint us, Dear

65. Dec. 16: I used Binaca breath spray.

Seems kind of weird, but I'm the kind of person who always chews gum, so I never really use anything else, and my friend, Emily, has been offering her breath spray everytime I ask for gum, and I haven't had any desire to use it. But yesterday I decided to, and I tell you it's awesome. It's so refreshing. I really want to get some now. Emily described it as feeling very "liberating." I guess it was that too.

I think we can all agree that my things have been less than awesome, and again, we can all agree that I need to step up my game. Since winter break is coming up, I will have more opportunities to do more "involved" things. I have a lot of things that are really cool lined up, but I just haven't had time to do them yet, so I end up doing weird things, I know. And I know this is another "apology" but I just thought I'd say what we're all thinking.

I would also like to point out that there is a new poll up, I forgot to mention it, and that might be why pretty much no one has voted on it, so just to let you know...

Dell

64. I unloaded and loaded the dishwasher completely unprovoked.

I'll be honest, there may have been a time that this has happened, but it's unlikely. If anyone knows me, I am extremely averse to doing household chores, and will NEVER do them without being asked (a flaw in my character, I'll admit) and so when I saw the sink full of dishes, I thought why not. I had just started my laundry, and thought I might as well keep going with the domestic theme. I have to ease into that one.

Things that are making me happy right now:
1. Christmas is almost here
2. Which means school is almost done for break
3. Lewis is doing quite well
4. Seinfeld
5. The Office
5. Along the same lines, Jim Halpert
6. Blogging
7. SNL digital shorts
8. Twilight
9. The fact that Batman exists

I would like to note that it is so cold, when I was putting away dishes this evening, I opened up the cupboards, and it was at least ten degrees colder inside.

Really?! With Seth and Amy

Sorry I haven't update at all since Thursday. I don't know what it is about me and weekends, and not updating.

So, def not something I did, but I think we can all agree this one is pretty epic:

61. Dec. 12: I saw Will Smith in person.

Many may know that he was at Southdale on friday promoting his new movie (seriously don't ask me why he was in Minnesota, let alone at Southdale) and collecting non-perishable food items for charity. He is probably the coolest person in the world. After Matt Damon (I have to say that on principle.) I went with Tianna and Jessica, and we left immediately after school, and got there at about 3:30, and they started collecting the food items at 4. So we were just hanging out...outside, standing around. Keep in mind, it was about 10 degrees outside. I must say I was not dressed very wisely. We didn't get there in time to get wristbands to see the movie, but I wasn't too concerned, although, in hindsight, that would have been nice seeing as how jazzed I was afterwards to watch a Will Smith movie. We finally got to go inside around 5, and we warmed up a little bit, and went out about 20 minutes later hand warmers in mittens, and stuffed into the toes of our shoes. Then we had to wait until about 6:30 or so until he actually got there, and he ran around greeting fans, and signing autographs, and then he spoke to all of us about his movie, and the charity, for about 15-20 minutes. I don't have any good pictures at all. It was really tough to get a good one. So just try to imagine this really fly black guy in a black hat and a jacket, just doing his thing. That was pretty much him. And basically that was pretty much it. It was awesome, but it was so cold, as soon as he was gone, we straight up booked it out of there and went to the car. It was only about 7 when I got home, so Caroline and I went out to the mall so I could buy her chipotle and Christmas shop (even though I had no idea what I was buying, and only bought for one person.) Awesome Possum.

62. Dec. 13: I only ate orange food.

I'm actually really disappointed because I didn't even realize I did that until the end of the day. So one of the most interesting things I've done, I did completely unpurpose. I woke up at about 12, so I skipped breakfast and just had some leftover chicken and cheese noodle casserole. Which was orange. I spent the day snacking on sesame chips, and clementines. Orange. I made myself cheese and shells with some velveeta. Orange. And I had Kraft Maccaroni for dinner. Orange. I suppose you could also say I had noodle based cheese dishes for all of my meals, as well.

63. Dec. 14: I made rice pudding.

My mother was going to make it, but she made me do it instead because I didn't have anything new yesterday. It was super easy compared to baking the bread. I much prefer that, because this was constant maintenance, and I don't like having to walk away and wait for things to happen (i.e. wait for dough to (not) rise) It was really good too, I must say. I think I just need more practice, and cooking and baking will be much easier for me. Because, as I said before, I want to be that person who cooks and bakes on the regs, you know? Especially since one of my New Years resolutions will be to "be more domestic."

Pretty much nothing else of note.

Viva La Vida or Death And All His Friends

60. I cooked hashbrowns

It's no wonder I've never cooked them, because they are extremely difficult. However, they are my favorite breakfast food, so I thought I'd try to make it work. In hindsight, I should have probably bought the ones that are already in hashbrown cake form, but I thought I'd go for a challenge. Even though that wasn't actually my logic at all.

In other news, I had a Quizbowl meet tonight, and we won all of our rounds. So, good for us. And seeing as we didn't take two teams last time, our former record of "zero" is now 4/8. And I totally mos def contributed. I powered on a Billy Crudup a la Mastercard question, and I believe Wall E one as well. We had a stellar team. Even if we ONLY played DeLaSalle teams. What a joke. Seriously.

My favorite things

I've had a great lapse in creativity this week. Bear with me. Is that the right "bear"? Or is it bare?

59. I drank some Yoohoo.

Ross had a bottle of it, and I was like "Hey I've never had this before." It was basically like Chocolate Milk, and as my good pal Katus the Batz pointed out, it tastes like there is some cinnamon. Good story, I know.

I found out that I will (for like the fifth week in a row) not be able to watch The Office tomorrow night AGAIN. Which angers me, because the last episode was so good. I guess that's all ther is to say about that.

Pas de Deux

58. I emailed Time magazine.

Has anybody read their Top Ten Movies of the year? I don't know if I missed something or WHAT, but The Dark Knight is NOT on the list. What gives? If I were to choose, that would be my number one movie of the year. Sincerely disappointing. And, while I am probably the only person I know that loved Speed Racer a whole lot, I do not in any way think it deserved a spot on that list, especially if The Dark Knight is not on it. I just cannot say enough bad things about this list. Except that: I will agree, Iron Man deserves to be on the list, as does Benjamin Button (even though I haven't seen it obviously, I think we all know that it has Oscar written all over it), Milk, Slumdog Millionaire, and Wall-E. But I just am at a loss with the rest of it. So disenchanting...

Virgania Horsen's Pony Express

57. I concocted some homemade Hot Chocolate.

My suggestion: Don't do this unless you have a recipe. What you think will be awesome and delicious is way too rich. Instead of milk as my main liquid, I used ice cream, and some milk, and some hershey's kisses (that was the only solid chocolate I had) and put it in the microwave. Quite literally this "recipe" came to me in a dream. Although, I imagine, I didn't use so much ice cream in the dream. In the end, it was good, but too rich to finish. Lesson learned.

I just watched the two episodes from the past two weeks of the Office tonight on Hulu, because I haven't actually watched it on a Thursday the night they air for who knows how long, and I just cannot get enough of Jim and Pam. I'm glad their plotline has improved. Cause I mean, seriously? Pam in New York? No thank you. I definitely wish I was marrying Jim Halpert. But let's be honest, who isn't in love with Jim?

Shut up Glen!

I'm sorry that I keep on posting a day late. I've just gotten into the habit of doing it that way. My bad...

56. Dec. 7: I cleaned my vanity area, and turned it in to a functional work space.

I decided to make more use of it, because I was trying to make a Christmas shopping list and cats were on my bed, and I didn't have my chair cleaned off, and my fouton had a ton of stuff piled on it, so I decided to clear off some space. I mean, do I really need to keep empty bottles of hair products? Or proudly display that I still have mascara bottles from 4 years ago? No, so I threw some stuff away and put all the not-useful shaz in my drawers, and organized it.

My obsession right now is definitely Hulu. It is the best website ever. Way better quality, and better clips than Youtube of shows and SNL skits. I don't have enough good things to say about that site.

Grandma the Punk Kid

I don't think people really like my precursors, but I think this one really needs it. So, some of you may know that I was planning on doing the Raindeer Run on Saturday Dec 6th. It was a 5k, and it was just around Lake Harriet. I was planning on running it with Emily, I think my parents were maybe going to do it, and several of Emily's friends I'm sure. However, I was startled to receive a call on Friday night in which I found out that I would NOT be running, because it was going to be terribly cold (which it was, I won't argue) and Emily was feeling sick, and the registration was $30, I've never trained a day in my life... the list goes on. SO, feeling rather disenchanted with Emily, she made herself responsible for taking care of my new thing for yesterday, and this is what she came up with:

55. Dec. 6: I played "The Wizard of Oz Board Game"

The Game in all it's glory: Basically candyland without the Candy, Magic Cards, which are useless until you really need them, but good luck having ANY when you need them, and the spinner that tells you how many spaces to go.

It was not a very exciting game, but we got a kick out of it nonetheless. We followed it up with some Trivial Pursuit. The least fair game of Trivial Pursuit ever, I might add.

Did anyone watch SNL last night with host John Malkovich? It was so funny. I can't remember any skit that I didn't really like. I really liked the "Barack Obama Plays it Cool" commercial. For some time now, I've thought that Fred Armisen's portrayal of Obama has been really underrated. I mean seriously! He does such a great job. I'm posting the video incase anyone wants to watch it.

I'm so excited to go Christmas Shopping. Never have I been more ready to spend money on so many things that are not for me. Is that a good thing? Or does my giving spirit still not make up for the fact that Christmas is commercialized, and completely driven by our consumerist society. I wasn't trying to sound like one of those people who guilt you about buying presents. But almost every bit of novelty of Christmas is being wiped out for me. Not to say that Christmas is novel, but I remember when gift giving was less selfish and I didn't make a list with very specific demands. I wish I wasn't like that, but I can't help it...

So you think you can dance? No..

I wasa inspired by how cld it is outside to do this one, evenm though it's kind of stupid:

54. I'm updating my blog with my m ittens on. ZTypos abound.

Typimg in the winter is very difficult, especially ince out computer is in "the porch" so, mittens seem like te natural answer. But, as you can see, not bery effective.

Talamello

In all honesty, this really shouldn't count, but I'm making it count because I think I almost want people to make fun of me.

53. Dec. 4: I cried at the end of Cheaper by the Dozen 2

There were just...some tender moments. I'm not proud. I think the term "teared up" may more acurately describe what it was like. Some of you may remember how, at the end of National Treasure 2: Book of Secrets (which I want to also point out, I watched 2 1/2 times in one sitting once), I got goosebumps, and everyone always makes fun of me for it, but now everyone has a legit reason for thinking I'm really lame. And for those who are wondering what I was even doing watching Cheaper by the Dozen 2, it was because I was babysitting (I know, I just keep getting cooler) and they were watching the end of it, and so here we come full circle. Plus, I totally forgot Tom Welling was in that movie, which was a pleasant surprise. It almost made me wish that I watched Smallville, but then I remembered that I hate that show.

I love Noodles. I just, love Noodles. I went there today for lunch and got Buttered Noodles with Parmesan Chicken, and it was just the best thing ever. I hadn't had that since May, I think, due to my journey to the menu, so it was only my second time having that. I would recommend anyone should get it. It's one of my favorites the menu.

Did everyone like my little Love Letter to Noodles up there? Good. Take my poll.

Holiday Guide to Greece and the Aegean Islands

Sorry, the internet was down at the homestead, so as you may have noticed, no blog posts. And the internet being down relates to yesterday's new thing being a little questionable..:

51. Dec. 2: I sat at an open house table and recruited for Quiz Bowl.

I was planning to do the thing I did today, yesterday, but it was an internet thing, and obviously couldn't. So, I think it's fair to say that the recruiting thing works. I have never sat at a table at an open house, nor have I ever wanted to, altough I have been involved in several activities before. We only got three kids interested in us, but we were playing some pretty stellar Harry Potter trivia to pass the time.

52. Dec. 3: I put a poll up on my blog!

I was especially excited to do this one, because until this point, I have not known how to put one up, and I'm one of those suffer in silence type of people, so I poked around on blogspot and figured it out. I didn't really know what to say though, so I posted the type of question I would most like to answer. So, sorry if I have kind of lame choices. There are a lot of movies coming out! So, please feel free to cast your vote if you read this. That may also give me a good idea of just how many people are reading.

I'll mention again, that I'm a little disenchanted with Top Chef season 5, but I'm starting to warm up to it a little. Except that they sent home one of my favorites tonight. So, we'll see if Tom can stay in my good graces for long after this.

fair.org

50. I created a Deco File on dominomag.com

Caroline was telling me I should create one, and I wasn't going to, but then I was thinking about decorating in my room, and didn't know how to get started, so I decided why not? So, I've only just started it, because my computer was being all slow. So, yup.

I fly like paper get high like planes

49. I saw a Danny Boyle movie (Slumdog Millionaire)

Some may think this is not very legit, but I think it is. My rational: Several Danny Boyle movies (Millions, 28 Days Later, Trainspotting) are movies I have always wanted to see, and meant to, but never have. So, I think it's fair to say that I finally saw one of his movies that I wanted to see.

And my analysis of the movie was that it was really great. I hope it gets nominated for an Oscar. Even though I've been assured that it probably will. It was kind of long, but it was one of those movie that is long for a reason, they have to fit everything in, so it was very engaging in that way. I believe it was Jane who said that people from India are the gems of the Earth. Meaning that they're just so darn attractive. I agree with that assessment.

The Divine Struggle

Now I'm starting to get mad at myself for how many food things I've been doing. But when you think about it, even though I'm not trying to do a lot of things that are really convenient, they all still are, and I've been falling back on them too often. So, sigh...:

48. I ate one of those pasta meals they sell at Turtle.

I've always wanted to, but have never been able to pull the trigger, because I usually just want to get boring old soup. And to be honest, I wanted to get a pinneapple pizza again tonight, but it didn't work out, because they had so many pizzas to make already. So, I figured, since I was there, I would do something a little more "active." And the diagnosis on it was that it was pretty good. Maybe not something I would get again, but I might try a different type of pasta some time. It reminded me strangely of thanksgiving, and I still have no idea why.

I went to the Mall tonight with Lizzie to do some window shopping, and to gather ideas for christmas gifts and my own list. I think I am way more intrigued by the concept of shopping than the act of it. It might also be because Lizzie didn't want to buy anything, and therefore I didn't really want to make her wait for me to buy things. Plus, I didn't much cash, and thought it would be kinda pointless to visit an ATM.

And speaking of ATMs, by a happy mistake I saw my bank account balance and was pleasantly surprised that I had so much more money than I thought. I've been avoiding checking my balance for a while now, because ever since I stopped working, I don't put any money in, and have made really great friends with the ATM. I won't say how much was actually in there, but it was a good few hundred dollars more than I thought. Great for Christmas.

But thinking of money made me sad that I don't have a job. I really don't have time for a job right now, and It would probably be hard to get hired anywhere anyways, but still. I'd very much like a steady income again so I didn't have to fear checking my account balance. And I'd like to get a debit card at some point without being scared to use it. I'd love to get a job at Barnes and Noble or some clothing retailer (gap!) but I think, along with the fact that I still don't have my license, and am not the hugest fan of inconveniencing people in the rides department, I am just too busy to even try to get one.

Plus, I was hoping at some point this year I could get back into theater. I don't really know how I fit into the South High Theater Department anymore, if I ever did. I mean, yeah, I have a lot of friends in theater, and am somewhat confident with my abilities, but I can't deny the fact that still, as a senior, I am very shy. And they're so clique-y. I feel like that's a tough barrier to break. So, if I try out for anything this year, I'm making someone try out with me. (And no one can say that I should try out by myself for my new thing, because I have already done that. ha!) That's assuming that either of us would get in. But we'll see. I'm still not entirely sure I'd want to. Because that would also be super time consuming as well. And I would feel really bad having to miss days during production week of Southerner to go have rehearsals. I don't know, I'm just thinking out loud.

This post was more Livejournal, than Blog. Does anyone mind that I went so in depth here? Or did you skip over everything? I'd just like to know if it's worth writing this much stuff in future posts.

For your Consideration

Linksys

47. I saw a play at the Park Square theater

It was a nice little place in downtown St. Paul, which I don't hate as much as some other people profess to. I went with my father, of course, and that was pretty much that.

Another list:
1. I spent practically my whole day doing nothing (Including sleeping late, taking a loong shower, watching tv, surfing the internet, and "cleaning" my room) It was not as spectactularly awesome as I might force myself to believe.
2. I'm typing with a cat on my lap right now.
3. I am so desperate to throw out all my clothes and buy new clothes. Is that wrong of me?
4. I wish my Christmas joy I felt in late September was back. I'm not nearly as excited as I'd like to be.
5. This weekend isn't as long as it should be.
6. I don't know how to be a loving person

Without a song

46. Thanksgiving: I ate Cranberry sauce. How appropriate!

Hard to believe that I've never managed to eat cranberry sauce on thanksgiving, since I like to eat most everything, including squash, which I don't especially like. All in all in was a good thanksgiving, even if it was over a t 5:15. (I'll never get over that.) Thankfully, I have mounds of stuffing left over.

Which reminds me, I lost 8 pounds after getting my wisdom teeth out. Of course, I was forced to eat a lot less, but still. And I will probably gain it all back. By eating stuffing.

Also of note about Thanksgiving:
As we were going out on our traditional walk, we walked right by the townhomes right by our house, and we saw 3 wild turkeys, just hanging out. In residential Minneapolis. I'd never seen a turkey up close in real life, I don't think.

And then, flipping through the channels later on in the night, what do we come across but Rocky 5. We watched the end, and then were delighted to see that Rocky was coming on next. So we watched that. And then Rocky 2, and then I started watching Rocky 3 when it came on, but I was supposedly tired. I totally could have done it.

I don't know if I've rambled more in a blog post before. Sorry about that.

Tonight I can write the saddest lines

45. Nov 26: I styled my hair without using a hair straightener.

Yeah, I know, but I have never done that. And for good reason, because without it, my hair looked really poofy. I don't have a picture because my camera was out of batteries, and by the time I was home later the style was dead. You didn't miss much.

I forgot to mention some other things that were stupid about Dancing with the Stars:
-Miley Cyrus came on and sang this song and thought she was so cool, but she really looked like an idiot. I mean really.
-Brooke Burke and Derek waltzed to John Mayer. You cannot waltz to John Mayer.
-Miley Cyrus is really stupid.

In other news, I saw Twilight again last night. I can't say that I liked it more the second time, although I was more aware of how stupid it actually is, but nevertheless, Robert Pattinson is completely and totally the hottest single human being right now. Tianna, Lizzie and I, were having a bit of a heart attack whenever he was on the screen. And then I went home and watched him on Jay Leno. How fangirlish of me...

Bella: I know what you are
Edward: Say it. Say it out loud.
Lizzie and Me: Sexy!

Dr. Cullen: You know who you are
Lizzie and Me: You're sexy!

I'll be loving you always

44. Nov. 25: I watched an episode of "Dancing with the Stars." The finale, no less.

It reminded me why I don't watch those types of reality shows. I'll stick to Bravo. It was so campy, it was unbelievable. I was also reminded that Rocco DiSpirito (Respected Chef, and token foodie crush of mine) was a contestant this season, and I remembered to lose respect for him again. And, as if Lance Bass could be even more of a joke. As Dudesie said: He's no Tony Vierling. I couldn't agree more. Ultimately Brooke Burke and her partner Derek won. How precious...

I usually try not to sound so completely pretentious, but that was unavoidable.

A list, just because:
1. I'm so happy to be done with December production. Being the graphics editor=me hating making graphics that don't even get used.
2. I slept 12 hours last night. It was awe-some.
3. I had some good/weird dreams last night.
4. Speaking of dreams, I dreamt that "The Seagull" was a musical and it was 17 acts, and it was running at South for 35 weeks.
5. I'm a total creeper.

Rock Me Sexy Jesus

Australia Review

Never in my wildest dreams would I have suspected that Baz Luhrmann could make a movie this good. “Australia” has such impact, a great assemblage of talented actors, and just the right amount of light-heartedness, this would be my top pick for an Oscar nomination this year, if I were handling the awards.

To lay the groundwork, let me just clue everyone in on the premise. If you, like myself, have had a hard time over the last month or so trying to glean from the previews what this movie is actually about ( it’s not just two hot Aussie actors kissing each other all the time), you can rest easy finally knowing that it’s about competition within the cattle herding industry. That’s right: cattle herding. Why would you ever make a movie about something so mundane?

Except, “Australia” is the opposite of mundane. The movie, plucked straight out of the wartime era, is instead, the best use of the word “epic”. Without being too sappy or tender, “Australia” manages to be the perfect rendition of the great classic romance. And while I’m ill-equipped to offer the male perspective on how it stacks up to some other more “masculine” options that are out right now, I will just mention, again, that the film takes place during WWII, so decide if that’s enough to keep you engaged for 2 and a half hours.

To address the bigger problem, yes, you read correctly: 2 and a half hours. This is my only complaint about the movie. It’s too long and could easily be made into two separate films entirely. We’re welcomed to the first half of the movie by the voice-over of a young aboriginal boy, Nullah (new-comer Brandon Walters), which could easily be far too cutesy, but it works nonetheless. He introduces us to Faraway Downs, the herding section of the Australian outback inherited by Lady Sarah Ashley (Nicole Kidman.) Lady Ashley (known to the people of Faraway Downs as “Mrs. Boss”) is met by her match in a man only known as The Drover, played aptly by Hugh Jackman. (And no, seriously, he never gets a real name.) Along with a motley crew of others, they herd their cattle into town ahead of the competition. End of act one.

The second half of the movie dives deeper into the relationships established in the beginning. It focuses on the struggle between the good characters versus the bad characters and scenes that will keep you on your toes waiting to see if the ending will be a happy one. You may also be intrigued by Walters, who manages to hold his own against the two principle actors. He is adorable, but not in your face, and he brings the perfect amount of innocence to the film. He completely steals every scene he is in, just by existing.

So, you may have gathered that I am quite enamored of this movie. I offer the opinion that “Australia” is an incredible movie, and I trust that anyone can stay engaged the whole time, and should definitely give it a shot.

43. I applied to college. Officially.

Yup, not much else to say.

Caroline Royce has sent you a gift...

42. I gave someone a haircut.

Caroline was complaining all day that she needed a haircut, so I decided to do it myself.

Before, from the back

Before, from the...side

During

After

She wanted it A-symmetrical, and she totally thought I did a good job, even if she wouldn't admit it really. I think I did a pretty bang up job.

Mouth still hurts, kinda.

Saw Quantum of Solace today. So totally anti-climactic. Literally, NOTHING happened during that whole movie. Seriously. See it because you just kind of have to see it, but don't expect anything good.

Caroline: "I feel like nothing really happened until like the first hour."
Me: "I feel like nothing really happened until like the whole movie."
Or something along those lines.

love, actually is all around

41. Nov. 22: I forced myself to go to sleep with the lights on.

It seems like kind of a weird idea. I really can't stand trying to go to sleep with lights on, and I especially would never make a concious decision to leave them on, so, there you go. I know that's not really eco-friendly of me, but I did wake up some time after and turned off my lamp. It was actually very frustrating. I don't recommend that to anyone who likes to sleep in the dark. Which should be everyone..

I want to ride my bicycle

Definitely not something I went out and did on a whim.

40. I got my wisdom teeth out.

I would post a picture, but I'm not the hugest fan of my face right now. I guess you could also count that as "getting surgery," as it was my first one. It was really not as bad as everyone says. The surgery wasn't bad at all, although I expect I seemed a little insane when it was over. The hardest part is trying to eat anything. Especially since half my face was numb for about 11 hours. And surprisingly enough, even with drugs I didn't fall asleep until about 6. I would have never suspected that to happen. And it took me about 2 hours to make a small dent in my Noodles maccaroni, which my mother graciously picked up for me. Is it normal for my arms to feel all weird?

AS to be expected, I am completely obssesed with Coldplay, still. Especially:

Yeah...what a stud.

Doing something new doesn't have to mean doing something stupid

39. I utilised the Fun and Games section (which I didn't know existed) on the Star Tribune website, and played "Play Four"

This game is a big hit with my Father. It's much better than some other games, that are mindless.
Play it here.

Also, I saw Australia tonight. So phenomenal. I will post my review later if it's any good. Seriously, that movie is just great. See it for sure.

Real Coca-Cola taste, and zero calories

38. I learned the alphabet in sign language.

I would post some sort of video to prove that I can do it, but I don't have the resources to make one, and I'm not about to post 26 pictures. And I could still be cheating anyway. Just try to ask me to do it in the next couple of days, if you need the proof.

Top Chef again, not impressed. And neither is Chef Tom, I guess.

The thing about pizzas is, it's the thinness of bread, which makes a great pizza

37. I saw a movie in the "new" theaters at MOA

Twighlight, via preview. I totally get it. The obsession, that is. I don't think it was a well made movie at all, but I really liked the story line. And my gosh, Robert Pattinson. I never thought he got enough time onscreen as Cedric Diggory, so this was quite the step up. As if anyone needed more reason to find him irresistable.

I guess this means I have to read the books now. Which I probably should have done before, since I need to write a review now.

Moderate Comments

36. I ate black bean soup.

I know I keep complaining that I'm doing too much food. But it's just most convenient right now.

Don't mistake that for an apology.

I also saw Changeling tonight. It was really good, if not a little long. I really liked John Malkovich, and....Angelina Jolie was good, I guess. For those of you who don't know, I strongly dislike dear Angie for stubborn reasons. I'll be the first to admit that I should give up the fight.

Zazz

Sorry, I kind of took the weekend off. I was busy all weekend, and when I got home yesterday, I took a ridiculous nap, and barely woke up from it for the rest of the night.

33. Nov 14. I got a burrito bowl at Chipotle.

Yes, I know, another food thing, but I was there, and I needed something new, so I got a bowl. Plus I wasn't that hungry, so it was perfect. Verdict: Not the same without the tortilla.

34. Nov 15: I went up to Luther Park on a Saturday.

This is kind of unlegit, but I've never done it, and I'm not about to be all like "I gotta do a new thing" especially, since there's like nothing new to do up there.

35. Nov 16: I watched 60 minutes.

Primarily because Barack Obama was giving his first interview since becoming PRESIDENT ELECT, but then I realized that I'd never watched it before, and it's on my list anyways, so it worked out pretty well. I'm sure it would have been much more of a stretch for me if I didn't have any interest in the programs content. But what are you gonna do...

ALSO OF NOTE!!!
The Coldplay concert on Friday was AMAZING!!! Seriously best concert ever. Way better than their Twisted Logic tour, even if the precious Star Tribune doesn't agree with me. Nobody in the world moves around like Chris Martin, and I can't tell you how in love I am with Guy Berryman, and have been for a long time. He's got a good look right now, although I miss the mop top. I went with Caroline, and we seemed to be the only ones who were into it. And the girl next to me. But that's about it. I'm also pretty sure nobody around us knew any lyrics. Except for, again, the girl next to me. As Caroline kept saying, "Um, did you have to pay $115 dollars for these tickets, too? Cause you sure aren't acting like it."

Also, we were driving home after the concert, and these like, 16 year old punks, drove up next to us, and flashed us some McCain Palin bumperstickers (that they had a large stock of in their car, for occasions such as these) and were all gloating and such. About What? YOU LOST. I am not trying to disrespect Republicans at all, but there is no need to be an idiot. I would say the same if McCain won, and I saw some young Democrats doing the same thing. Or any combination of Republicans and Democrats, winning and losing. So yeah, go get the Jeep back to your parents before curfew, and make sure you don't lose those stickers-- they obviously come in handy.

museum.tv

Another food related thing. There just seem to be a lot of these. According to Jessica.

32. I ate Eggs Benedict.

I believe my brother once called them "God's gift to man." I'm not so sure I agree. I just can't eat fried eggs ever. I have some weird thing about eating the yolk. But I tried it, and that's what matters. Not sure I'd have those again.

I saw Pirates of Penzance at my school tonight. Starring the famous Willis Batz-Kamby as Frederic, it was totally awesome. Although, it could have clearly been better, it was high school, so whatevs. I strongly recommend anyone who is in town this weekend to go see it.

Even though I was not able to watch The Office this evening, I am still completely obsessed with Jim and Pam right now. Does anyone have a favorite Jim and Pam episode?

Elephants!

I would like to resolve some confusion:

I was not apologizing because I think that reading the biz section was not worthy of all your cool and awesome opinions-- I was merely apologizing because I found it so boring. It seems like the kind of thing that people would be like "man, you don't like the business section? the economy is crazy go nuts, you best start caring" or something like that. But looks like no one said that.

Also, it seems the concencus is to leave Lewis inside. In my defense, I'm not an idiot, but it was not snowing so much in the hood yesterday, so I thought there might still be time.
Moving on..

31. I drafted a copy of my Will

For those of you who would like to see if you are included in my Will, it is as follows:

1. To my dearest Parents: My copy of Iron Man on DVD

2. To Caroline: My quarters, and my copy of "Watchmen"

3. To Emily: My BSB buttons

4. To Josh and Co.: My Back to the Future DVD set

5. Smokey: My Bras

6. CoCo: My Magazines

7. Jessica: "Die Hard"

8. Tianna: My Oxford English Dictionary

9. Lizzie: My vast and superior knowledge of Everything

10. Emma: Tianna

11. Stellan: My Watch

12. Molly: 4% of my body fat

13. Jon Towey: My love of Bill Clinton

14. Lewis: My IKEA lamp

15. ALL OTHERS: My immense pop culture knowledge.

ALL OTHER ITEMS MAY BE DONATED TO CHARITY.

So obviously, this isn't very practical, but it'll do in a pinch. But, among others reasons, let's hope I don't die tomorrow.

So, anyone watch Top Chef NY tonight? I don't know man......I can't say I'm feeling it too much. But it's early, I kind of always feel that way. I want to be back in the glory days of season 3. That was the season, tell you what.

One Cent

Bleck.

30. I read the entire Business section.

So so boring. I am sorry, I know that it's all important, but I wasn't engaged at all. But, I mean, what could I have expected? I learned:
-Starbucks earnings have dropped 97 percent....apparently
-Circuit City is in mondo trouble with the moneys
-Some money guy turned 80 something.

To bring around my point again, it was boring. That's an example of me doing something new, that I wouldn't necessarily do otherwise. That is if I weren't looking for new things to do.

I fear that my dear plant, Lewis, is suffering from lack of sun. Is it too cold to sit him outside? I think he might benefit best from having some direct sunlight.

I have also been toying with the idea that I have a mild case of Vertigo. What other than dizzy spells does Vertigo come with?

Monday, November 10, 2008

I think if that's true, you're doing it wrong

A little dissapointed that for, what, the millionth time? my original plan has been dashed. I was planning on eating Pinneapple pizza tonight, but upon ordering my Biga Pizza, I was told they were out of Pinneapple. I could have changed it to some other obscure flavor I'd never had, but Lizzie was considerate enough to switch it to sausage (she didn't realize pinneapple pizza was my new thing.) So scrambling to find something that I'd never had before at Turtle, I ended up:

29. Eating a slice of Cranberry Pear pie.

It was bizzarro, and kinda gross. I don't suggest to anyone who ever comes across this flavor to eat it. I know that this is less than awesome, but that's not for lack of trying.

I am constantly amazed at how many people are actually reading this blog. It's not that many to my knowledge, but I get surprised when people tell me they follow me. I guess it's because certain "best" friends of mine don't read it. That's a backhanded way of saying "you suck." Also, Tianna alerted me that she didn't know you could make a comment without having a blog, which you can. So....if that's been holding anyone back. Feel free..but not obligated.

Global Warming? You Decide.

Some may think I'm scraping the barrel, but I think I'm creative:

28. I painted my fingernails with my toes.

Left Hand

Right Hand

It was not, as you can see, very successful. But it solved that whole painting the right hand with the left hand thing.

Tonight I saw Rachel Getting Married. It was sensationally good. I really wanted my new think today to be genuinely enjoying Anne Hathaway in a movie, but upon review, it was a bad idea. The movie was just so authentic. I tend to be rather critical when watching movies, and am always looking for the fakeness, but this was done really well. I did not expect to like it so much.

And pictures? That's something I've been meaning to do more of, sorry. I'll start documenting the things that are document-worthy more often.

Unless you count Osteoporosis as the prize for least Calcium Consumption

27. I washed, dried, ironed, folded, and put away a load of laundry in one day.

May not sound like a big deal, but this has never ever ever even been close to being done in my life. It usually goes as follows: I put my whites in the wash. That's Day 1. Day 2: Put whites in dryer, put darks in wash. Day 3: Put darks in dryer. Day 4: Bring laundry basket up to my room. Rare Occasion: Fold and put away laundry. Less rare occasion: stick laundry basket in the middle of room, pull clothes from it when neccessary.

I only did one load of this though. I will tell you why: I could have done the whole everything, but most of my day was tied up, and I only just finished, so I wasn't about to keep going. Plus, so rarely do I iron, I believe I caused even more wrinkles to my clothes. Note to self: Practice ironing.

My day was tied up because I went to the mall with Caroline tonight to help her find a job. I offered to let her take me to the mall, and she would fill out applications. So she got seven applications, and filled them out while we ate dinner (it took about an hour or so) then returned them. We also inquired in five other stores, but she needs to apply online for them, so that'll come later.

Also to note:
I bought the most awesome watch tonight at the LEGO store. I have wanted it for so long, but have only ever been able to find it online. It is a Lego Star Wars R2-D2 watch. It is so freakin awesome. It was 20 bucks, and totally worth it. And it was the last one. In other news, I spent like 30 bucks on food tonight, between my dinner, Caroline's dinner, and a congratulatory Cinnabon for each of us, I racked up quite the list of expenditures. I need to stop spending so much money. I have also been spotting people cash lately. If I try to lend you money, stop me. I don't really want to, but will not refuse, because I use money as a bribe. It's my greatest weakness.

I was watching that show "17 and Counting" on TLC tonight. My god, it's so ridiculous. This is the family that has 17 kids and one on the way. They are all homeschooled, they all wear dresses (the girls) they love eachother so much, and do EVERYTHING together, are BFF with another mondo family, and oppose pre-marital KISSING. I am sorry, but come on. What is the dealio-yo. Plus, they're judgemental. It makes me feel not as bad about writing this right now.

Morphology

25. Nov. 6: I listened to a Jonas Brothers song.

Even though I claim to hate the Jonas Brothers, it's all about them as individuals. I have never given their music a chance, because I expect not to like it. So I hate them for little to no reason. Sue me. And by the way, I was...not a fan.

26. Nov. 7: I got a steak burrito from Chipotle.

I see no reason for me ever to get a steak burrito again. Chicken is so much better, and that burrito was just most dissatisfactory. I'm sorry to all the steak fans.

In other news, I turned in my senior picture and quote today. My picture was just a random one that I took of myself freshman year, although you can't really tell that I took it 3 years ago. My quote was from Zoolander: Moisture is the essence of wetness, and wetness is the essence of beauty. I did not want a serious/inspirational quote at all. Those are lame-o.

Also, my obession this week has probably been either: The Election, and we all know how that turned out, or using the word "Manifest." As in: Me using the word "Manifest" has just manifested itself all week long, and I think everyone's getting annoyed.

Even more things:
I was really happy today when two of my friends who hate eachother, but need very much to work together all the time, talked over there issues, and resolved some stuff. They both always complain about eachother to me, and I feel so awkward always being in the crossfire. I end up saying things I don't mean about the other, for which I feel bad. But they had a kind of "hug it out bitch" moment a la Michael Scott, so hopefully some things will be better. At least for now.

Holidays and Festivals- Germany

When a bird is diligently building its nest in a tree, would you call that branch dressing?

24. I did the cryptoquip in the newspaper.

Pretty self explanatory. And the above quip is indeed of the 'crypto' variety.

Like a Square

WE OUT-MAVERICKED THE MAVERICK

The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars

EPIC EPIC EPIC

23. I VOTED

I B-rock'd that young vote. I'm telling you man, this is probably bouts to be the best election ever. It's history changing, and I don't understand how some people decide that it's not important to vote at such an important time in America's history. We have a fresh young perspective, or a wizened veteran of the scene. I can't respect anyone who decides not to vote because they either don't see the point, or think both candidates are stupid. You have the right to vote, take it, please. I can, on the other hand, respect anyone who has legit reasons for voting the way they do. That is what it's all about. The coming together of America's voices and opinions to cast a vote for change. Democracy in action, as my mother would say.

Also, an upsetting tid-bit of my life:

I found out last night that my Dearest Father, Dudesie, did not vote for my favorite president (I shan't name him, it's unprofessional) when he ran. He's my favorite president ever. If he was able to run an infinite amount of times, I would vote for him every single time. However, my father does not seem to feel the same way. I was grossed out. Shame. This deserves a "Dudsie."

Huzzah

Today I didn't take the easy way out. I found yet more evidence that I'm no good at baking:

22. I baked a loaf of bread. Cinnamon Raisin, to be exact.

It was fun to bake something, and I liked kneading the dough, but I had some technical difficulties, and my yeast kinda decided not to do it's job, so it doesn't really look that much like bread. Kind of like a little gooey brick. But hey, it still counts. I would try it again, but I think I need more patience, something I don't have a whole lot of. Plus I wish I was that cool person who baked things on the regs. You know the one.

Two exciting things:

1. I got my SNL best of '06/'07 DVD in the mail today. I'm pretty excited to bust that one out.

2. I found the podcast for Seth Meyers on MPR. I just went back to the website. I assume it just wasn't posted yet when I was looking the first time. I listened to it, and as always, I love Seth Meyers. A little more than words can express.

What'll you do when you get lonely

Didn't update on yesterday's thing because it was rather late.

21. Nov. 2: I watched all the Harry Potter movies in a day. In the biz, we call this a "Marathon"

If I am ever to do that again, I will plan it way better. Start way earlier, take 5 minute breaks for Calisthenics (because, I'll be honest, I did start to doze off around 9:30) and buy a larger variety of snacks. a.k.a. not just starbursts, lays potato chips, and sorbet. And, a public apology to T-Pain: I'm sorry I fell asleep so many times.

I'm gonna come clean a little bit, I started the fifth one after midnight, so technically they were not all in one day, but I still have never watched more than one in a day, and I think that counts towards something.

My obsession this week has kinda been thinking about college. Either in a positive of negative way. Just kind of thinking of how it will be when I'm college next year. Weirds me out a little bit.

Newspaper Production

Sorry I haven't update since wednesday. It's been a combination of me being extremely busy, and a little lazy, not gonna lie.

18. Oct. 30: I saw Zack and Miri Make a Porno/ Ate outside at chipotle.

Usually, I would never ever let myself kind of combine two, but technically they were both new, and neither of them are very strong "new things." I apologize.

19. Oct. 31: I sang Karaoke.

It was for my sister, Emily's birthday. She turned 27, and we also went to Buca beforehand, a place I had never been to, so technically that is another new thing I did that day. There were some pretty sweet selections for Karaoke. Featuring: a little BSB, some BS (Britney Spears), ABBA, and other classics. Even some Coldplay.

My favorites of the night would have to be I just died in your arms tonight by my good friends Cutting Crew, and Voulez-Vous, by ABBA. Both songs were dueted by Caroline and Myself.

I also have to give a shout-out to the ladies who were also at Emily's b-day: Emily, Jess, Kristen, Maria, and Melissa. Good times, my friends.

20. Nov. 1: I posse'd down to Gustavus Adolphus College to pay my little buddy B Batz a visit (a.k.a. I saw his play)

It was a really really good play. It was a production of the fairly recent play "Topsy Turvy Mouse" and he played the lead role. I would suggest everyone go see it, but last night was the last night. We also had dinner with P. mic, which was a little precious.

I also took my senior pictures. It was a guy who comes to your house, and he sets up all his shaz, so it was kind of awkward at first, but we'll see how those all come out.

GACDADY OUT.

Re: Hurrah!!!

So, I didn't update yesterday because blogspot was being a buttface. So new thing yesterday:

16. Oct. 28: I read an article in Newsweek.

Now, I've never chosen to read an article, but I may have read one at some point for some class, without my knowledge. The article I read was about how living eco-friendly is starting to become so fashionable, it will start to be expensive. Not that it isn't already, but it will become even more expensive. The link the article.

Now the new thing I did today might seem like really lame and stupid, and an easy-way out, but I really wanted to do it:

17. Oct. 29: I visited mpr.org.

I've never used the site before, and I really liked it because it just had so much stuff that was accessable to me. I went on the site to mainly look for a podcast of an interview I had just missed with Seth Meyers. I got a text from Lizzie telling me about it, and I tuned in for literally the last ten seconds. No such luck in finding that interview. However, I have a new favorite website, because I love the classy websites of legit publications, such as bbc.co.uk.

So...I feel all newsy

pbs.org

I've had a really crappy day, so the new thing wasn't really on my mind at all, until it was 9 and I still hadn't done anything, so I:

15. Ordered something off of Amazon. Best of SNL '06/'07 to be exact.

I would, right? I know. But I'm totally excited for it to come. And it was like $10, and since I had a giftcard leftover from last years birthday, I'm set.

Pharos Lighthouse of Alexandria

So, I was planning on mastering the excecution of this Apple Cake that we've tried to make in the past, and was pretty confident that we would make it perfectly this time. But like failing the drivers test, I was too confident and it failed. So instead I:

14. Edited a page on Wikipedia.

Thanks to Tianna who gave me this idea. As much as I love and use Wikipedia, I have never actually edited a page. It just made me feel so powerful. I decided to edit a page I would consider myself an expert on, so enjoy:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crystal_Castles#Game_play

I added the portion about villains in Crystal Castles.

I'd also like to take this oppurtunity to talk about the incredible amount of sass I've been getting. Either the things I'm doing are too mundane, and not exciting, or the things I'm doing are too obscure. I would kindly like to ask everyone to zip it. I ask for suggestions, I do not ask for people to tell me that I'm doing it all wrong, and if you'd like to do it better, fine, think of 365 things to do, and we'll see how many exciting things you can think of, or enough mainstream and non-obsure things that people do everyday. I'd like you to keep your opinions to yourself, I did not start doing this so people could tell me they can do it so much better, and I honestly don't appreciate it. This is exactly like lent when I gave up diet coke and Lays regular potato chips. I can't tell you how much crap I got when I drank regular coke, or baked lays.

Just please don't tell me I'm breaking my own rules, unless I wrote a rulebook at some point and you somehow possess the only copy.

Alright, had to let it out.

BroBiz before ShoBiz

Okay I know this is SUPER excessive, this being my third post of the day and all, but I was just passing the time by watching some SNL videos on Hulu, and found the best video ever. It's the kind of video that might make some of you say "you would":

Season 2 reunion

So I know that I said that I was going to do something really late tonight, but that plan fell through. Doesn't it seem like I keep not doing what I say I'm going to do? But regardless, what I ended up doing was really fun:

13. Jessica and I went to target, and each filled up a basket with 20 things, switched baskets and raced to see who could replace the items in their basket first.

Disclaimer: I stole this idea from Emily, my beloved sister. It started off when Jessica and I ended up not being able to hang out and do the thing I was planning for us to do. And then we decided that we still wanted to hang out, but do something fun, and hopefully not make it cost so much money. I still really wanted to go out though, so I started to brainstorm ideas for fun things that don't cost money, that involve us going out. Then I remembered Emily telling me about a game she and her friends played at ShopKo or Wal-Mart in college, and decided to do it with Jessica, on a modified scale. It ended up being really fun, we didn't spend any money, and we stopped in a visited Lizzie at Turtle afterwards. Good wholesome fun....

And by the way, I lost. I had like 5 things left when she won.

Lacking Express; Inclined Express

I promised I'd post my review of "W." and I'm not sure that anyone actually wants to read it, but I'll post it anyway. It's my review for the Southerner, so that's why it's so formal:

W. Review

Stated simply, it’s hard to figure out what this movie is. Is it a comedic slam of George W. Bush, or is it a sincere chronicle of his life ? I’ll tell you, after 2 hours, I’m still not sure.

Let me break it down for you. The way Oliver Stone made this movie evokes two very different interpretations: He either sought to paint W. as a divine tragedy (cue scenes with soft piano over hard times in Bush‘s life), or a great mockery, bringing some classic “Bushisms” back into the picture. But one can never really be sure what gets accomplished here.

On one hand, the scenes of Bush’s young life are done quite well. Josh Brolin steps into the Commander in Chief’s shoes with ease. Brolin’s portrayal of the early, rowdy, alcoholic Bush, who holds a slew of odd jobs, courts trashy women, and is heading down the "wasting your life" type of path, are ironically serious, boasting the possibility that if you just polish this up enough, this might have Oscar written all over it.

On the other hand, scenes of the later years, showing Bush in office, make him look, for lack of a better word: Stupid. There’s no other way to describe the movie at these points. The script is really hammed up with silly “Bushisms,” and they make him seem trivial, and completely overpowered by Dick Cheney (Richard Dreyfuss).

But what does W. ultimately become? A hodge podge of Bush here in ‘77, and then Bush there in ‘02, and then in ’86, and in ’04, and ’02 all over again. Back and forth, and back and forth, and you get the picture. There are so many good ideas here that are undeveloped, and are completely not cohesive, that you kind of wonder why not just put this one back in the oven? And maybe just make the whole thing in chronological order. Clearly this could be a great movie, but not now.

Which brings up another question: Why now? Why produce this movie at the very end of Bush’s presidency? Is it to remind people that he’s still president? Could be. I for one, keep forgetting that he exists amidst this heated political season. Or could it be that Oliver Stone just really wanted to make a movie about Bush, and refused to wait? Or maybe, we’re supposed to enjoy it more because it’s so recent. Whatever the reason was, this is just does not seem like the time.

At the end of the day, Josh Brolin is W.’s only ace. The rest of the movie is so-so. Elizabeth Banks as Laura Bush meets expectations, and James Cromwell and Ellen Burstyn as Mama and Papa Bush, are pretty good. However, W. may have relied too much on big names to fill small roles: Thandie Newton as Condoleezza Rice, Ioan Gruffudd as Tony Blair, Noah Wyle as Don Evans, and I’m still not really sure who Colin Hanks is supposed to be playing. Still more evidence of a diamond in the rough.

My advice to you is to not see this movie if you sincerely love George W. Bush. Conversely, if you hate him, be forewarned that you might find yourself respecting him at times. It’s an extremely slippery slope, but regardless, it’s an interesting movie, even if it’s a few cards short of a deck. It’s probably a good idea to put this one on your radar. If nothing else, you’ll get some laughs.

B-

I will write about my new thing later, although it will still be before the fact, because new thing will be much later.

Common Watchers

12. I filled out a college application.

Note: This is not the same as applying to college, because I didn't submit it. And to address the bigger problem, yes I have waited this long to even start applications. It was an application to Bethel, and I'm not sure that I will actually send it in. Upon further investigation, I'm not sure that I really want to go there. And by not sure, I decided to apply on a whim, so...yeah.

On another note, I will be taking the ACT tomorrow for the FOURTH time. Yeah, I'm pretty glad that this will be my last time, because even If I get another crappy score, this is for sure THE last time. And I've spent all week studying. That is why my new things have been pretty lame-o....

So, I've been incredibly obsessed with Andy Samberg this week. I think ever since I got back from New York, SNL in general has been my obsession, but more specifically my favorite cast member, Andy. I just about died last night during his "Jam the Vote" segment of the special Thursday night Weekend Update. I found the video on Hulu, it's about two minutes into the entire thing:

Atlas of the Greek World

So, I didn't do the thing I had planned for today, because I didn't want to run the risk of making myself vomit right before the ACT. So we'll save that for later. But just a disclaimer, what I did instead is a total cop-out:

11. I observed a special needs class at school.

The reason this is such a cop-out, is because I was required to observe a special needs class for my Economics class, but I found it very interesting. It was a group of about 6 or 7 boys, probably Sophomore or Junior aged. I wish all boys were as polite and open as their feelings as these boys are. I also learned some new slang, as that's what they were studying today in the "Social Success" class.

WonderClub

So grossed out by the new thing I did today:

10. I created a MySpace

Now, you may be thinking that that's totally not a big D at all, but it seriously is, because I vowed never to creat one, and took great pride in never breaking down and joining the craze.

You might also be thinking that all the new things I've been electing to do lately (i.e. not the NY stuff) is incredibly passive, and I'd have to agree with you, but I'm just a little ways into this thing, and I swear, there will be some new things that are more exciting soon. Just to tide you over and prove I'm not lying: there will be cows, needles, and different types, but equally scary needles included in some more "active" new things. And....tomorrow's gonna make me sick for sure.

Check out my MySpace (if this address doesn't work, you really don't need to look at it anyway....): http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=424059445&MyToken=5b952aa8-8fb8-446e-a1f8-836fb787a5a0

Dukakis on Crime

So I was struck with a brilliant idea for my new thing today while I was on my home from seeing "W." (which I will post my review of later) and I got super jazzed about it:

9. I took a 3 1/2 minute shower.

Now, this may not seem that impressive, but let me tell you, I can take some long showers, meaning usually like 6 times as long. So, I did something that I didn't think I could do (that's always my excuse for not taking a shorter shower, because I simply 'can't do it') but it's also good to get in the habit of reducing my water usage. As green as I claim to be, I waste a lot of water, and don't really think twice about it. So, why can I stand to take a 20 minute shower every night, and still cringe when I throw a pop can in the trash? I had never really thought about it before.

Live from the Battlefield: From Vietnam to Baghdad, 35 Years in the World's War Zones

I apologize for my "absence" as I've been in New York, and without internet access, and then when I got home, my internet was not working, so....without further ado:

4. Oct 16: I went to New York.

It is probably one of the most amazing places ever. Not because, like some places, it's physically beautiful, but the seediness, the accents, the super-charged atmosphere of times square was just it for me, totally awesome, and I want to go again and again. "some other notables from that day.." Waving to Keith Olberman, seeing Eric Ripert's restaurant, taking a NYC subway, going to Bryant Park, going to St. Patrick's cathedral, flipping off Fox News, to name a few...

5. Oct 17: I saw a broadway play. Specifically: Equus.

You might be thinking: isn't that the play where Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potta) gets nekkid? H'o chya. But that's not why I saw it...him getting naked, that is. I wanted to see him, and the play was actually genuinely good, although, who knows if I'm just saying that because I love D Rad so much...But ultimately, something I'd never done before. Other things I did that day: Saw Statue of Liberty, went to Ellis Island, wasted 17 hours of my life at the latter, saw Matt Lauer; Meredith Viera; Al Roker; Emeril; GOT DANIEL RADCLIFFE'S AUTOGRAPH (holla)

6. Oct 18: Went to the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Pretty awesome place, although I'm convinced, had it not come near the tail end of our trip, I wouldn't have been so incredibly exhausted, and therefore completely apathetic. But, there were some nice paintings, some Monet, who is my favorite, some Renoir, Van Gough...and a nice Gift Shop. Other things that day: Befriended two complete strangers, and are now friends with them on facebook, SPOKE TO DANIEL RADCLIFFE, went to the Dakota; Strawberry Fields, went to Chinatown (sketchiest place EVER), technically went to Little Italy, although did not get to do anything there, Toured NBC studios, and got to see the SNL stage where (sigh...) they were not practicing, went to the NBC experience store and purchased a few things, went to 'wichcraft, which is a sandwich shop established by Chef Tom Colicchio, who is like the coolest guy ever.

7. Oct 19: I took a taxi

I pretty much had no choice with this one, it was our ride home from the airport, but it was, I don't know, a taxi....not much else. Other things I did that day: Walked around Queens, NY, watched my Iron Man DVD...not really a whole lot to choose from, hence: Taxi.

8. Oct 20: I learned to knit

Now, I'm going to be honest, a seemingly crazy, possibly senile german, norwegian, polish (iii'm not sure what she was) woman tought a friday afternoon class at my school in middle school, but I hardly count that as legitimate. So I had my mom teach me, and I kept screwing up, but I might have been angry, because I was watching Rachel Maddow at the time.

On another note, I have not done anything new yet today, and yes, I know, it's getting down to the wire. I guess I shouldn't have assumed I'd pass my drivers test, and since that didn't happen, and I don't have a back-up, I have to think of something else to do. And no, failing my drivers test is not something new for me.

I also went to a Newspaper/Journalism field day type thing at the U, but I've already done that. Hmph.

I'll post later with my new thing for today...

And also, I would add some photos, but there are too many. Check facebook
